We would like to draw your attention to a special session on Alkaline magmatism, carbonatites and associated mineral resources at the Nordic Geological Winter Meeting in Denmark, January 10-12, 2018. The website is now open for abstract submission. Abstract deadline: October 15th 2017
Session 1.6. Alkaline magmatism, carbonatites and associated mineral resources
Alkaline igneous rocks and carbonatites are the world’s dominant resources for critical metals that are essential for modern technologies and renewable energy solutions. These include the Rare Earth Elements (REE), Zr, Nb, P, Ta, Li, U and Th. The Nordic region is a particular hotspot for exploration and research activities on critical metal deposits. This session invites all contributions focussing on understanding the magmatic and hydrothermal evolution of alkaline igneous rocks, carbonatites and associated mineralisations, utilising new insights from petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry and geophysics. Contributions exploring magma chamber dynamics, roof zone processes, and physicochemical parameters of melts and fluids which govern element transport and deposition are particularly encouraged. Contributions on ore characterisation, (hydro-) metallurgy and mineral processing are also welcome.
Please see the attached flyer and website for submission guidelines and a full list of session topics.
You are welcome to redistribute this among interested parties.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in January.
Kind regards,
Anouk Borst & Adrian Finch
